Unified Communications: FAQ

When callers dial my/our office number, they are hearing the prompts for Cisco voice mail. How do we fix this?

Check to make sure that the phone number is not call-forwarded to voice mail. That can place your callers directly into voice mail, and if you haven’t set up your voice mail box yet, your callers will hear the Cisco prompts.

How  can I set up my voice mail?

On the phone, press the button with the cassette icon. When prompted, enter the PIN given to you by the Office of Technology and follow the instructions. You should be prompted to create a greeting and to set up a new PIN.

What is voice mail to email?

The Unified Communications system has a ‘voice mail-to-email’ feature. If your voice mail has been configured with this setup, an email is sent to your inbox (could also be in the label marked ‘UC’ or Spam) containing an mp3 file of the voice message.

How can I request a longer network cord for my new phone?

Contact the Technology Support Center at tsc@ucmo.edu or 660-543-4357.

What if my phone still says “Phone is Registering” or “Unprovisioned?”

Unplug the network cable from the back of the phone, wait 60 seconds and plug in the cord again. The device should go through a cycle of re-boots that takes four minutes. The display should show a phone number in the top left corner of the screen. If you are unable to make campus calls after the reboot, contact the Technology Support Center at tsc@ucmo.edu or 660-543-4357.

What should I do if my phone’s readout or secondary lines need to be updated?

Contact the Technology Support Center at tsc@ucmo.edu or 660-543-4357 and provide as much detail about the problem and needed changes.

How do I reset my PIN?

If you cannot remember your PIN, contact the Technology Support Center at tsc@ucmo.edu or 660-543-4357. If you know the PIN, log into the voice mail on your phone and select Options, then ‘Go to audio voicemail setup’ and ‘Preferences’ to update the PIN.

How do I transfer a call?

Press the Transfer key (button with an arrow pointing to a single person) and dial the number of the intended recipient (four digit extension for on campus and full number for off campus). Hit the transfer button again to complete the transfer.

How do I personalize the display on my phone?

Press the Settings button (cog wheel) to make changes to the ringtones, directories and dialing. The screen display cannot be personalized.

How can I set different ringtones if I have more than one line on my phone?

Different ringtones can be set up for each individual line on your phone through Settings.

Can I see a list of my missed calls?

Yes. A red icon will appear on the right side of the screen displaying the number of missed calls. Select the button next to the icon to see the list of callers. To clear the list, follow the options at the bottom of the screen.

How do I return a call or call back the person who just called me?

There is a Redial soft key at the bottom of the phone display.

When I'm out of the office, how can I be alerted that someone is trying to call me?

To forward calls from your desk phone, press the Forward All soft key at the bottom of the display and press 9-1 and the full ten-digit number. Wait a few second for the forwarding to register. All calls will be forwarded to the entered number until call forwarding is turned off. To remove call forwarding select the Forward Off soft key.
