Manually Registering Devices on WiFi

Summary

Inner-office article regarding connecting smart devices to UCMO Wifi/UCMO-Guest - including links for student and employee device registration.

Body

Overview

Some devices are not capable of making a connection to UCM WiFi from the device itself. Devices must be registered to the WiFi network manually.

Procedures

Accessing these links requires a connection to the UCM network. For each of these registrations, the user will have to provide the WI-FI (Wireless) MAC address of their device. There is a maximum registration per user of 10 devices for either employees or students.

Users can do this themselves by navigating as follows:

Students use this link:

https://student.devices.ucmo.edu:8443/mydevicesportal/PortalSetup.action?portal=e2278036-6a70-4ba9-8326-ac331107b0ef

Devices registered this way by students (must have a student NID) are deleted at the end of the Spring semester and must be renewed each year.

Employees use this link:

https://university.devices.ucmo.edu:8443/mydevicesportal/PortalSetup.action?portal=de50ad89-7423-43df-bdfb-9f19c5f3650e

Devices registered this way by employees (must have an employee NID) are not routinely deleted.

Additional Notes

The WI-FI MAC address of the "device" can not have an "active"  UCM WiFi account. Only one in the system will not work. Instead, when trying to add the WI-FI MAC address, it will tell you that there is already an active account on the UCM WiFi system.

To make the "device" work on the "University Managed Devices on UCMO-Guest WiFi" system. John Malone and a few TSS individuals have access to the system, where you can cancel the current active account so that you can make the "University Managed Devices on UCMO-Guest WiFi" system work for the device. After the cancellation of the current active account has been accomplished, the individual will need to sign out of UCM WiFi, turn off WiFi.  Then have the individual sign out of the link that was used (Employee or Student).  Close the browser and then start the process all over.

Also, after you get where the "device" has been added to "University Managed Devices on UCMO-Guest WiFi" system, if not already done, on the "device," they will have to shut off the WiFi, wait a few seconds, then turn on WiFi back on and pick UCMO-Guest. Some devices may have to be completely shut down.  Wait a few seconds, then start it back up, then pick UCMO-Guest. The connection should be made and good to go.  At peak times, it can take 15 minutes or so for the connection.
